About this video
🚨 SECURITY ALERT: PHP and Node.js have released patches for vulnerabilities that could lead to Remote Code Execution (RCE), meaning remote code execution. But how do RCE and CVE actually differ?
On 21 October 2026, PHP published two critical vulnerabilities: CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, which could allow unauthenticated remote code execution. Node.js also fixed CVE-2026-111497, related to the Brotli decompression library.
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) is an identifier system for security vulnerabilities, not the name of an attack technique.
🔎 You will explore:
- How RCE works and why it is dangerous.
- What problem CVE was created to solve in 1999.
- Two serious PHP memory-handling vulnerabilities.
- Why not every CVE leads to RCE.
- Which PHP and Node.js versions to update to fix the vulnerabilities mentioned.
Patched versions:
PHP: 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, 8.2.35.
Node.js: 22.23.4, 24.22.1, 26.12.1.
